Message for 2010

(The good news version of the bible)

Proverbs 1 verse 7-16

“To have knowledge, you must first have reverence for the Lord. Stupid people have no respect for wisdom and refuse to learn.

Pay attention to what your mother and father tell you, my son. Their teaching will improve your character as a handsome turban or necklace improves your appearance.

When sinners tempt you, my son, don’t give in. Suppose they say, “Come on: let’s find someone to kill! Let’s attack some innocent people for the fun of it! They may be alive but they’ll be dead when we’re through with them! We’ll find all kinds of riches and fill our houses with loot. Come and join us, we’ll all share what we steal.

Don’t go with people like that, my son. Stay away from them. They can’t wait to do something bad.”

This is a great passage for all young people to hear. It gives specific reference to how a young person can live a holy life.

2010 represents hopes, changes and a new development of ourselves...right? Many turn to new diets, resolutions and changes in order to improve themselves, to which many fail. However, if we turn to the word of God we can build a great source of wisdom and guidance that lead to joy and success.

In this passage of proverbs Solomon gives a particular guidance to young people. In simplicity this passage says that for a young person to have knowledge they must:

1.      First have a reverence for God.

2.      Pay attention to what your father and mother say as their teaching will help to develop your character

3.      When people tempt you don’t give in. Be strong and overcome those who will pull you down or cause you to do wrong.

4.      Be careful who you choose to be your friends. Be near to those people who mean you good and not harm.

Four really great points! The bible is the source of great wisdom! So 2010 is a year to gain wisdom!

Happy new year and blessings
